Yes, I remember when I reached that part of my consecration to Mary. It sounded kinda like "socialistic" prayers;-) Ahhh ... but who do I trust more? Me … or Mary? The Blessed Mother wins every time!

Wow Trena. I am totally blown away with the stuff you are dealing with in this PSR class. God is really using you. It's wonderful that you have the courage with the grace of God to tell the truth to these CHILDREN. I will continue to pray for you in your role as teacher/and at home.

Hi Trena,
It's interesting that in your lifetime you haven't seen many women wear veils in church. I just remembered how much older I am than you when reading this post! As a kid in Catholic Grade School (from 1964-1972) we wore a beenie as part of our uniform...this round flat hat with a button in the center. We stuck it to our heads with a hatpin. If your forgot your beenie, well then the nun or layteacher would sitck a kleenix on your head with a bobbypin for Mass! The idea was to have a covering on your head to show respect. But the "veils" were for the grown-ups. If grade school girls wore a veil on Sunday, they were super cool. We wore beenie's through 8th grade ('72) but by then I think most women had stopped wearing the veil...I'm guessing this was another change post Vatican II. I don't know that for sure...but there were TONS of changes as a result of the Vatican II council (in "68 or '69?) to modernize the church. I'm wondering if the requirement for women to cover their heads in chuch was let go at that time.
It's funny that wearing a veil now, goes against your vanity....but I remember back in the 60's women sometimes were pridefull about wearing their "BEATUIFUL lacy veils." So my question for Mary Renee would be does she know that wearing a veil in church is a sign of respect? Or is it just a dress-up thing? Interesting...let me know how your thoughts on this evolve...
