Day Five: Becoming a Minimalist

My ultimate goal was to get rid of my husband’s car which would accomplish the following:

  1. Use the money we earned from selling the car to pay off my van
  2. Reduce gas bills in half
  3. Car maintenance on only one vehicle
  4. Reduce our carbon print
  5. Fewer trips to Target which would mean less money wasted  (seriously, that store is crack for moms.)

At first my husband was hesitant on the idea of only having one vehicle.  But when he realized all the money we would save, he realized I wouldn’t have to work anymore.  Knowing that he could take the metro to work also helped make the idea very favorable.

But then he reminded me that he had a big dent in the back from a car accident last year.  We never got the dent fixed.

Then he mentioned that he already had 68,xxx miles on his car from driving into the city five days a week for the last three years.

I still had hope but then he had to buy two new tires this weekend.  A huge chunk of money that we were putting into his car.

So now, I’m feeling a bit defeated.  If we sold the van and only used his car then we couldn’t have a third child any time soon.

I still feel like God is calling me into this direction.  Or maybe the message is getting cloudy.  I’m still praying about it to see where He is sending us.

About Trena

I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, but more importantly, a child of God. I try everyday to be a better person and I fail constantly. But through prayer I hope to be a better person all around.
